When was the last time your did something for the first time?

I recently ventured to Europe with a friend and two other friends of hers (girls trip!). We visited Devin Castle in Bratislava, drank wine and saw allthethings in Budapest, and ended with a few days visiting museums and “summer” homes (palaces 10x my home) in Vienna. It was amazing. Going into it I had no idea where I was going, what I was doing, or half the people I was going with. I took a step of blind faith in my friend because I saw an opportunity for epic adventure.

But that’s the thing about venturing into uncharted territory, right - You don’t always know what’s going to come next. Sometimes we let this scare us into staying where we are comfortable and safe. I’m all about safety and security…. but I also highly recommend stepping outside of your comfort zone from time to time!

When is the last time you did something new for the first time? Can you find something this week that pushes you out of your comfort zone? It doesn’t have to be as extreme as a week out of country! Maybe there’s a new restaurant you’ve been itching to try for weeks but just haven’t let yourself take a chance on yet, maybe there’s a new instructor at the gym/studio you’ve yet to try. It could be as simple as taking a new route home, just to mix it up. We all tend to find favorites and stick to them - burst that bubble!

Benefits of Stepping Out of Your Comfort Zone

  • Personal Growth/Build Resilience : trying new things pushes you beyond your current boundaries, challenging you to learn and adapt. Fostering a growth mindset enables you to tackle challenges more effectively in the future.

  • Expand Perspective : stepping out of your comfort zone exposes you to different experiences, cultures, and perspectives. It encourages open-mindedness, empathy, and appreciation for diversity.

  • Add excitement to life : trying new things breaks through monotony and routine, keeping your mind engaged and stimulated.

  • Overcome fear/increase confidence : stepping out of your comfort zone helps you confront and overcome fears and insecurities. When done successfully, it can boost your confidence by reminding you of your capacity to overcome challenges.
