OMG, I'm so happy you're here!
Whether you are new to yoga and stretching or have been practicing for some time, Welcome! I'd love to help you move better.
So you can't touch your toes?
Neither could I when I took my first yoga class. Not even when I started my teacher training. And guess what?! Some mornings when I first wake up, I still can't comfortably touch my toes.
I was a fairly active child, but not in any way athletic. I was often outside riding my bike, walking with friends, or goofing around at the playground. Even today, I still love the swings! But, I also despised gym class and never got into organized sports. I once tried a yoga video with my mom when I was a teen and all I remember from it was that it ended up being a nap on the living room floor. It wasn't until my early 20's that I found a way to move that I truly enjoyed, and it took another decade after that before I realized one day that I could finally touch my toes without force or strain.
I believe that our bodies not only need but want to move. The more regularly we move, and the more varying movement we find, the better we feel. The challenge each of us has is to find ways to move our body that makes us feel good. Part of that is learning to listen to your body and how it responds to movement.
My journey to finding movement that I enjoyed started with a borrowed Insanity video that I paused halfway through to export the contents of my stomach. I hated it, and I also persevered through it for another month or so before deciding it just wasn't for me. All that to say, we don't always find our perfect match on the first try.
Since then, I have trained on a reformer, taken various group fitness classes, worked in a bungee gym, went through a boxing phase, got my ass kicked by barre, fell in love with climbing, eventually got into yoga, and so much more. What started as a determination to find something active that I enjoyed, blossomed into a love for moving my body intentionally, regardless of where or how it was done.
My journey became less about what I was doing and more about how I was able to be present with myself through it, and how it made me feel both physically and mentally.
Now that I lead movement practices, I like to incorporate things I've learned along the way. My movement practices encourage attendees to listen to their inner guide first and me second. Prior clients have described my classes as welcoming, creative, cohesive, and flowy. One recently said "I think we stretched muscles I forgot existed a decade ago."
I understand first-hand that movement is not "one size fits all" and believe that our practice shouldn't be either.
Movement is medicine...
Why Creating Space?
My purpose in life is ever-evolving. One thing I know for certain in this world focused on productivity and hustle, is that we could all use a little more space. Space to slow down, space to breathe, space to move, space to think and connect with our inner being. Nod your head if any of these resonate... If I haven't got your attention yet - what about space to have fun, to play, space to reconnect with inner JOY?!
When we take deep, conscious breaths we create space in the lungs and diaphragm. When done properly and regularly, this can benefit breathing efficiency, blood oxygenation, posture, and mental clarity.
By moving our body through varying movement patterns, including flexion and extension, we build strength, flexibility, and mobility - thus creating space in the physical body.
Combining breath and movement intentionally builds deeper connections with your Self. In being present with your Self, you can create space in your mind to separate your thoughts from your sense of self.
These practices have the ability to calm the nervous system, boost confidence, build resilience, and thus help to create space to separate from dis-ease and reconnect with play and joy.
Join me in Creating Space to bring like-minded people together to cultivate connection, spread more love, and reconnect with joy!
