Move Your Body

Have you ever heard someone say "(Insert movement) is my therapy!"?? Dancing, running, climbing, weightlifting, etc. etc. Our bodies carry so much - physically, emotionally, energetically. When we remain stagnant, everything that we carry just sits and festers within us. It has no where to go. So it makes sense that when we find an activity we enjoy, that it feels like therapy! Our bodies want to move.

My mother used to say "motion is lotion". And while it always made me cringe a little for some reason, it also makes complete sense. Now there is balance necessary between motion and rest, but the point here is that the more consistently we do something the easier it becomes for us. Do you want to be able to reach your toes and tie your own shoes? Well, reach towards your toes every day - even if it takes weeks to actually reach them - and over time you will notice they become closer and closer. Oh, you have bigger ambitions and want to run a marathon? Just start running, keep running consistently, and notice how over time your lungs have better capacity and longer distances become more attainable. Isn't the human body amazing? Practice creates progress.

But you don't even have to have to have big movement goals. You just gotta move. Show your body that you love it and care for it, and in return it will continue to allow you the opportunity to love it more easily. Stand up and shake off that email that frustrated you. Walk off the meeting that could've been an email. Stretch out between tasks to keep yourself from becoming stiff. Dance around while you're cleaning house or preparing a meal. Whatever you choose to do, move in ways that feel good for you.
